Better Audio.
Any Tesla.
Tesla builds remarkable cars. The factory audio is not remarkable. You've probably seen the plug-in boxes from overseas sellers that claim to "unlock hidden speakers" in your Tesla. More speakers doesn't mean better sound — it means the same sound coming from more places. You still only have two ears. A true audio upgrade replaces or enhances the actual hardware — speakers, subwoofer, amplification — and gives you real control over how it sounds. That's what we do.
Model 3, Model Y
The volume models — the Model 3 and Model Y account for the vast majority of Teslas on NZ roads. Both are fully upgradeable across all three systems. The factory audio on standard-range models is particularly basic; the Premium Audio upgrade is better but still limited by factory amplification and no real bass. Both respond very well to a proper subwoofer and DSP amplification.
Model S, Model X
The Model S and Model X — Tesla's flagship sedan and SUV. Both come with a more developed factory audio system, and both still benefit significantly from a proper upgrade. The larger cabins and higher expectations of these models make the improvement from System Two and Three particularly worthwhile. The Model X's unique falcon-wing door configuration doesn't affect the upgrade — all speaker locations are accessible.
Cybertruck
The Cybertruck is here, although not in the same numbers as the rest of the Tesla range. We're ready for it. If you've got one — or one on order — contact us to discuss what's involved. Early indications are that the same upgrade principles apply; we'll confirm the specifics as we work on more of them.
Three Ways to Upgrade

Clarity. Control. Power.

System One addresses the two things that make the biggest immediate difference — bass and tweeter performance. A compact, slim subwoofer hidden under a seat or underfloor fills in the low frequencies the factory speakers can't produce. A high-fidelity tweeter and crossover replacement lifts the sound to ear level — adding width, separation, and the upper frequency detail that the factory tweeters compromise. The amplifier balances the front speakers against the new subwoofer so the bass doesn't overpower the rest. A bass remote gives you direct control over the subwoofer level — essential when you switch between music and podcasts or talkback radio. Everything is hidden. Nothing is permanent.

- Micro DSP processor
- 4/3-channel amplifier — front speakers and subwoofer
- High-fidelity tweeter and crossover replacement — front
- Bass remote control
- Sound deadening — front doors
- Power kit, cables and minor parts
- Installation and calibration
System Two adds a micro DSP processor and proper front speaker amplification to the subwoofer foundation — giving you complete control over every part of the sound for the first time. The DSP processor takes the signal from the Tesla's factory system and cleans and optimises it before it reaches the speakers — solving the factory's lack of clean output and giving us independent EQ control over every driver. A 4/3-channel amplifier drives the front speakers and subwoofer with proper power. Sound deadening in the front doors reduces acoustic loss and lets the speakers work as designed. Control is the key word. Not every song is produced the same. Not every road sounds the same. This system lets you adjust for both.

Tailored quote — contact us- Multichannel ADSP amp/processor
- Front speaker and tweeter component upgrade
- Rear speaker upgrade
- Compact subwoofer and amplifier
- Sound deadening — front and rear doors
- Power kit, cables and minor parts
- Installation and calibration
The complete build. Every element of the Tesla's audio system — front speakers, rear speakers, subwoofer, amplification, and signal processing — addressed and calibrated for the specific car and owner. A multichannel ADSP processor amplifier gives us 30-band independent EQ control over every speaker and tweeter in the system. Front speaker and tweeter components are replaced with high-performance units. Rear speakers are upgraded to handle proper amplification. The subwoofer — whether replacing a factory-activated unit or adding one where there wasn't one — is hidden underfloor or in the rear cargo area with full level control. You spend most of your time in the front seats. The front stage gets the most attention. The rest of the system is calibrated around it.

Rapid Radio has been installing and calibrating car audio systems in Auckland for over two decades. We work across the full spectrum — from everyday EVs through to Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, and Tesla — with every build calibrated by ear to the vehicle and the owner. No compromise installs. Factory-clean finish. Every time.
No two builds are the same — and that's the point.
Because the DSP is the engine of every upgrade, the hardware around it is entirely flexible. Entry-level speaker sets will sound dramatically better than the factory system — and world-class reference components will do things the factory engineers never imagined. We work across the full range, from practical upgrades to reference builds, and every system is calibrated by ear before you leave.

Upgrade Packages
Does upgrading a Tesla audio system actually work?
Yes — and it's not the same as the plug-in boxes sold online. Those devices attempt to activate pre-installed factory speakers, but more speakers playing the same signal isn't a better sound. You still only have two ears. A true upgrade replaces the hardware — speakers, subwoofer, amplification — and gives you real control over how it sounds. That's what our three systems do.
What about those plug-in upgrade boxes for Tesla — aren't they simpler?
They're simpler, but the results are not the same thing. Activating more factory speakers gives you more places for the same sound to come from — it doesn't make it better sound. There's also a real risk that a Tesla over-the-air update changes what the device does or removes it from the system entirely. Our upgrades work independently of Tesla's software and aren't going anywhere.
My Tesla already has a factory subwoofer — can you still improve it?
Yes. The factory-activated subwoofer is a starting point, not an endpoint. We can replace it with a unit that produces better sound and — critically — gives you actual control over it. A bass remote means you can adjust the level for podcasts, talkback radio, or music without touching the factory controls.
No. Our upgrades work independently of Tesla's software. The new speakers, amplifier, and subwoofer connect to the factory signal and operate entirely on their own hardware. Tesla can push updates as often as they like — the audio upgrade is unaffected.
Will a Tesla software update affect the upgrade?
All of them — Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X. All three systems are available for every model. If you have a Cybertruck, contact us to discuss the specifics.
Which Tesla models can you upgrade?
Can you do a Cybertruck?
Yes. The Cybertruck is new to New Zealand and we're ready for it. Contact us to discuss what's involved for your specific vehicle — we'll confirm the best approach and system options.
Where does the subwoofer go in a Tesla?
Typically underfloor or in the rear cargo area depending on the model — hidden, with no visible change to the interior. The Model Y and Model X have good underfloor options that keep the cargo area fully usable. We'll confirm the best placement when we discuss your specific car.
How long does a Tesla audio upgrade take?
System One is typically a one-day installation. System Two usually takes one to two days. System Three with full calibration is can be three to four days.
