Premium Car Audio — New Zealand

Better Audio.
Any Ford.

Nobody buys a Ranger, Raptor, Wildtrak or Everest for the stereo. But you're in that cab every day — commuting, towing, weekend runs — and the factory audio is an afterthought at every price point. Even the B&O system on top-spec models sounds better on paper than it does in practice. We can fix that. Same factory look. No holes cut. Nothing that can't be put back.

Worth knowing

Ford's factory audio — including the Bang & Olufsen option — is tuned for the average everyday driver in average everyday conditions. Your Ranger isn't "average everyday" conditions. Road noise, tyre noise, and the general acoustic chaos of a ute cab all work against the factory system. A proper upgrade accounts for all of it.

Ranger range

Ranger, Wildtrak, Raptor

The current NextGen Ranger in all its variants — XLT, Sport, Wildtrak, and Raptor. The Raptor gets B&O as standard; the Wildtrak on some spec levels. Neither is bad. Neither is what it could be. The rear underseat area gives us excellent subwoofer placement options, and the door configuration accepts a full front speaker upgrade cleanly.

SUV

Everest

The Everest is Ford's proper seven-seat SUV — more family wagon than work truck, and the audio expectations follow. All three systems work well in the Everest. Subwoofer placement is underfloor rather than behind the rear seat, keeping the third row fully usable - but larger, more present subwoofer options are available as well. B&O is the premium option on Titanium+ and Platinum — and like the Ranger, it responds well to DSP control.

Previous Generation

PX1, PX2, PX3 Ranger

The previous-generation Rangers — PX1 through PX3 — are still everywhere on NZ roads and all are fully upgradeable. The factory audio across this generation was notably basic, which means the improvement from even System One is immediately obvious. The platform is well understood and all three systems install cleanly.

The Ranger, Wildtrak, and Raptor all have space under the rear bench seat for a customised subwoofer enclosure — this is the preferred option for serious bass without sacrificing cabin space. The Everest is a different configuration and needs a different approach.

Three Ways to Upgrade

Each stage builds on the last — or stands alone
Ford System One Audio Upgrade
System One

Better Bass.
Better Clarity.

For everything lacking in the factory audio...

1899
  • Compact hidden subwoofer — underseat, behind rear bench, or under dash.
  • 2-channel amplifier driving factory front speakers
  • Sound deadening — front doors
  • Power kit, cables and minor parts
  • Installation and calibration

System One adds what the factory left out — bass and amplification — without touching a single factory speaker or cutting a single hole. A compact subwoofer hidden under the dash, or under/behind the rear bench seat which fills in the low end the factory system simply doesn't have. A two-channel amplifier drives the factory front speakers with proper power, which alone makes a noticeable difference to clarity and volume. Sound deadening in the front doors reduces the acoustic loss that robs the system of presence on the road. The result is a system that sounds significantly better than factory — and looks completely identical to it.

Power &
Control.

Precision behind everything installed.

Tailored quote — contact us
  • Compact subwoofer — under dash, underseat or behind rear bench
  • High-performance 6x9 component speaker and tweeter set
  • 2-channel amplifier for front speakers
  • Multichannel DSP amplifier with app control
  • Full individual speaker timing, phase and EQ calibration
  • Sound deadening — front doors
  • Power kit, cables and minor parts
  • Installation and calibration

System Two adds new front speakers and full DSP control to the subwoofer and amplification foundation. High-performance 6x9 component speakers and tweeters replace the factory front drivers, giving the system a proper midrange and top end to match the subwoofer's bass. A multichannel DSP amplifier takes control of the entire system — correcting timing, phase, and EQ for every speaker independently. The amplifier sits under a seat, out of sight and out of reach. This is where the Ranger stops sounding like a work vehicle and starts sounding like a proper listening space.

Ultimate
Refinement.

Where car and song become one.

Tailored quote — contact us
  • Multichannel DSP amp/processor
  • Dedicated subwoofer amp
  • 6x9 component speakers and tweeters — front
  • Rear speaker enhancement or replacement
  • Subwoofer and custom enclosure — underseat, rear bench, or underfloor
  • Sound deadening — front and rear doors
  • Power kit, cables and customisation
  • Installation and calibration

The complete build. Every part of the audio system is addressed — front speakers, rear speaker enhancement, subwoofer, amplification, and acoustic treatment — selected and calibrated for the specific vehicle, and your listening style. A dedicated multichannel DSP processor takes full control of the signal chain, solving the factory stereo's lack of clean RCA output and giving us independent EQ control over every driver including individual tweeters. The subwoofer enclosure is custom-fitted to the rear bench area, underfloor, or under dash depending on the model. Rear factory speakers are amplified and enhanced, or replaced — depending on the build. Sound deadening goes into both front and rear doors. Nothing visible changes. Everything sounds completely different.

New Zealand's car audio specialists.

Rapid Radio has been installing and calibrating car audio systems in Auckland for over two decades. We work across the full spectrum — from everyday EVs through to Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, and Tesla — with every build calibrated by ear to the vehicle and the owner. No compromise installs. Factory-clean finish. Every time.

No two builds are the same — and that's the point.

Because the DSP is the engine of every upgrade, the hardware around it is entirely flexible. Entry-level speaker sets will sound dramatically better than the factory system — and world-class reference components will do things the factory engineers never imagined. We work across the full range, from practical upgrades to reference builds, and every system is calibrated by ear before you leave.

Components are specified on merit for every build — not habit.

Does this work on all Ford Ranger variants?

Yes. All current Ranger variants — XL, XLS, XLT, Sport, Wildtrak, and Raptor — are fully supported across all three systems. Previous-generation Rangers (PX1, PX2, PX3) are also fully upgradeable, although a few specific models have a minimum requirement when it comes to amplification to work with the active noise cancelling built into the cab. The Everest uses the same systems with a different subwoofer configuration.

How much does a Ford Ranger audio upgrade cost?

System One starts from under $2k including GST. System Two starts from $3,999. System Three pricing depends on component choices and model-specific requirements. Contact us for a quote.

My Ranger has the Bang & Olufsen system — is it worth upgrading?

Yes. The B&O hardware is a genuine step up from the base system, but it's tuned for average conditions, not for how a ute actually sounds on the road. A DSP amplifier gives us independent control over every speaker — which is where the B&O system's potential is actually unlocked. The improvement is significant.

Where does the subwoofer go?

In a Ranger, Wildtrak, or Raptor, the preferred location is under the rear bench seat — it's a clean fit with our custom enclosure, and allows for a proper 10" subwoofer with more bass output. A smaller underseat option is also available, which actually tucks up under the glovebox. In the Everest, the subwoofer options are a little different, so talk to us about how much sound you're after.

Will it affect the factory look or void my warranty?

No visible changes and no permanent modifications. No holes cut, no trim altered. Everything can be returned to factory condition. On warranty — all our installations are reversible or can be bypassed if required (even temporarily), but we recommend checking with your Ford dealer if you're concerned.

How long does installation take?

System One is typically inside a full day. System Two usually takes the better part of two days. System Three with full calibration is generally two days to three days.

Can you upgrade the rear speakers as well?

Yes — rear speaker replacement or enhancement is available. The factory rears are basic across the Ranger range; amplifying them as part of a DSP build makes a noticeable difference and often there's no need to spend more money on speakers you often can't even hear. Once the front speakers are tuned properly, the rears aren't as obvious - which is how a properly audio design is meant to work.

What about the F150?

Yes, we work on the F150. Configuration varies depending on the cab style and spec — contact us to discuss what's involved for your vehicle.
