Toyota Hilux Audio Upgrade — System One
TOYOTA HILUX AUDIO UPGRADE — SYSTEM ONE
The starting point — and in a Hilux, the improvement is immediate and obvious.
The Hilux cab is a noisy environment. Road noise, tyre noise, and the general acoustic chaos of a large ute at motorway speeds all compete with the factory audio system — and the factory system doesn't win. System One addresses the two biggest gaps without touching the head unit or changing anything visible.
On most Hilux models up to and including the 2024 generation, we may recommend replacing the head unit as part of the build — always a better outcome where it's possible. On 2025 facelift and new-generation models, System One connects to the factory signal chain and runs independently. Either way, CarPlay and all factory controls remain fully functional.
SYSTEM ONE INCLUDES:
- Compact subwoofer under or behind a seat
- High-fidelity tweeter and crossover upgrade
- Amplifier for subwoofer and front speakers
- Sound deadening — front doors
- Power kit, cables and minor parts
- Installation and calibration
HOW THIS SYSTEM WORKS:
The subwoofer fills the low-frequency range the factory system simply can't produce. No door-mounted speaker — regardless of brand or power rating — can physically move enough air to produce proper bass. A compact active subwoofer hidden under the rear seat does this cleanly and invisibly. In a Hilux cab, where road noise already dominates the lower
frequencies, a proper subwoofer makes an immediate and dramatic difference.
The tweeter upgrade lifts the sound to ear level. Factory Hilux tweeters — where they exist at all on lower grades — are modest units in modest positions. Replacing them with a proper high-fidelity set adds width, separation, and the upper frequency detail that gets lost in a noisy cab environment. Combined with the subwoofer, the system suddenly has a full frequency range for the first time.
Sound deadening in the front doors is included because in a Hilux it matters more than in almost any other vehicle we work on. The large hollow doors act as drums at speed — deadening material firms the panels up, eliminates resonance, and lets the factory speakers work as designed rather than fighting the door skin.
The amplifier drives the factory front speakers and new subwoofer with proper power. The factory head unit simply doesn't have the output to drive the speakers cleanly at the volumes needed to compete with Hilux road noise. The amp does the heavy lifting.
Once the DSP calibration is set using our specialist software, the factory head unit's bass, treble and EQ controls will still allow smaller on-the-fly adjustments. Wired remote controls are also available for most of our subwoofer and DSP amplifiers.
Suitable for all Hilux grades and generations — SR, SR5, SR5 Limited, Adventure, and earlier models.
