Better Audio.
Any Volkswagen.
Volkswagen builds some of the best-engineered cars on the road. The factory audio is not part of that reputation. From the basic six-speaker Golf through to the Dynaudio-equipped Touareg, every Volkswagen has room to sound significantly better. We know the full range — the quirks, the signal chain limitations, and the specific challenges each model presents. Whatever your VW, we can improve it. Considerably.
Transporter, Caddy, Crafter
The commercial side of the VW range — Transporter, Caddy, and Crafter. Two-seat front cab configurations with no rear doors to treat, which means the entire focus goes into getting the front stage right. Road noise is a significant challenge in all three — sound deadening makes a meaningful difference here before any audio work begins. All three systems are available and all work well in a van environment.
Golf, Polo, Tiguan, Touareg, T-Roc, Tayron, Amarok, ID.4, ID.5, ID. Buzz, Multivan
The mainstream VW range — from the Golf and Polo through to the Tiguan, Tayron, Touareg, Amarok, and the full ID electric lineup. Every model in this range is fully upgradeable across all three systems. Factory audio varies significantly by model and trim — from basic six-speaker setups through to Harman/Kardon on higher-spec variants. We know the specific signal chain and speaker configuration of each model, including the quirks that a less experienced installer won't know to look for.
Harman/Kardon, Beats by Dre, Dynaudio
The premium audio-equipped Volkswagens — Harman/Kardon or Dynaudio depending on model and year, both of which appear across multiple models and generations. Neither is properly amplified from the factory. A multichannel DSP is where each of these systems finds what it was always capable of. We own a Dynaudio-equipped Volkswagen ourselves. We know exactly what the upgrade does.

System One works with your factory speakers and adds the two things every Volkswagen is missing — bass and proper amplification. A compact subwoofer hidden under a seat fills the low-frequency range the factory system can't produce. A high-fidelity tweeter upgrade lifts the sound to ear level, adding width and the upper frequency detail that the factory units compromise. Sound deadening in the front doors firms up the panels and reduces the acoustic loss that robs the system of presence at speed. The factory head unit stays in place. Nothing visible changes. This is the starting point — and it makes an immediately noticeable difference on every VW regardless of factory audio spec.

Every Speaker.
The DSP unlocks what the factory amplifier never could.

- High-fidelity tweeter and crossover upgrade
- Multichannel DSP amplifier with app control
- Full individual speaker timing, phase and EQ calibration
- Sound deadening — front doors
- Power kit, cables and minor parts

System Two adds a multichannel DSP amplifier — the single biggest improvement available for any Volkswagen, and essential for models equipped with Dynaudio, Harman/Kardon, or "Beats". The DSP takes the signal from the factory head unit and processes it independently for every speaker in the system. Timing, phase, and equalisation are corrected channel by channel — giving us control the factory system was never designed to allow. For Harman/Kardon-equipped models, this is where the branded hardware finally gets the amplification and control it deserves. Sound deadening goes into the front doors. Everything is adjustable via Bluetooth app. Nothing is visible.

- Rear speaker upgrade with independent L/R channel wiring (where required)
- Multichannel DSP amp/processor with app control
- Full individual speaker timing, phase and EQ calibration
- Compact subwoofer — underseat or underfloor
- Sound deadening — all four doors
- Power kit, cables and minor parts
- Installation and calibration by ear
The complete build. Every element of the audio system addressed — speakers, subwoofer, amplification, signal processing, and acoustic treatment — calibrated specifically for the vehicle and the owner. Front component speakers replace the factory drivers. Rear speakers are upgraded and independently controlled. For Golf Mk8 owners, this is where we restore true left and right rear channel control — running dedicated wiring to regain the stereo separation the factory system removed. Sound deadening goes into all four doors. The DSP processor gives us independent 30-band EQ control over every driver in the system. The system is calibrated by ear before you leave. No visible changes to the interior. Everything sounds completely different.

Rapid Radio has been installing and calibrating car audio systems in Auckland for over two decades. We work across the full spectrum — from everyday EVs through to Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, and Tesla — with every build calibrated by ear to the vehicle and the owner. No compromise installs. Factory-clean finish. Every time.
No two builds are the same — and that's the point.
Because the DSP is the engine of every upgrade, the hardware around it is entirely flexible. Entry-level speaker sets will sound dramatically better than the factory system — and world-class reference components will do things the factory engineers never imagined. We work across the full range, from practical upgrades to reference builds, and every system is calibrated by ear before you leave.

Upgrade Packages
Can you upgrade the audio in any Volkswagen?
Yes. We work across the full Volkswagen range — every model, every year, every factory audio configuration from basic six-speaker systems through to Harman/Kardon, Beats by Dre, and Dynaudio. If it's a Volkswagen, we can improve it.
Will the upgrade affect my Volkswagen's warranty?
In most cases, no. All installations are reversible — no permanent modifications, everything can be returned to factory condition. The Golf Mk8 rear channel wiring at System Three level is the exception — this involves running additional cables, though it remains reversible. We recommend confirming with your VW dealer if you're within the warranty period.
How much does a Volkswagen audio upgrade cost in New Zealand?
Pricing depends on the model, factory audio configuration, and system level. Contact us for a quote specific to your Volkswagen.
Which Volkswagen models can you upgrade?
All current Volkswagen models are fully upgradeable — Golf, Polo, Tiguan, Touareg, T-Roc, Tayron, Amarok, Transporter, Caddy, Crafter, ID.4, ID.5, ID. Buzz, and Multivan. Older models are equally upgradeable. Contact us with your specific model, year, and factory audio configuration and we'll confirm exactly what's involved.
My Polo has the Beats by Dre system — can that be upgraded?
Yes. The Polo Beats Edition came with Beats by Dre branded audio — an eight-channel amplifier and an integrated subwoofer in the boot. It looks and sounds more premium than the standard Polo system, with big bass that matches its namesake headphones. The underlying amplification is still factory grade. A DSP amplifier gives the Beats hardware proper power and independent EQ control — the improvement is significant and the Beats aesthetic is completely unchanged.
I've heard the Golf Mk8 has a rear speaker issue — what's involved?
Yes. The Golf Mk8 has a specific rear channel configuration where left and right rear speakers are combined into a single mono signal. The factory fader appears functional but true stereo rear control doesn't exist from the factory. At System Three level we restore independent left and right rear channels through dedicated wiring. Once calibrated, the factory fader and balance controls must not be adjusted — the DSP takes over all sound management. It's more involved than a standard build, and we factor this in from the start.
My Touareg has Dynaudio — is it worth upgrading?
Yes. Dynaudio has appeared across multiple Volkswagen models and generations — always as the premium option, never with the amplification it deserves from the factory. A multichannel DSP amplifier gives the system the power and control it was designed for. We own a Dynaudio-equipped Volkswagen ourselves — we've done this upgrade and we know exactly what it delivers.
What about the Amarok — does it have a premium audio system?
Yes — the Amarok PanAmericana and Aventura come with Harman/Kardon as standard. Like other HK-equipped Volkswagens, the hardware is genuinely good — the factory amplification behind it is not. A DSP amplifier transforms what the Amarok's Harman/Kardon system is capable of. The Amarok Style has a basic six-speaker system which responds equally well to the upgrade.
