Better Sound.
Your Shark 6.

The BYD Shark 6 has quickly become one of New Zealand's favourite utes. New owners tell us the same thing almost straight away: why is the stereo so quiet? The Shark 6 in New Zealand comes with a multichannel Dynaudio system with 12 speakers, and the speakers aren't the real problem. For factory gear they're not bad at all. What lets the system down is power. There just isn't enough behind them to let them do their thing. A multichannel DSP amplifier fixes that, and gives us control over every speaker individually.

Worth knowing

These are three different builds, not three steps on one ladder. A DSP amplifier that already drives all 12 speakers doesn't need more hardware stacked on top, so each system is designed as a complete package. All three include sound deadening in all four doors, and the factory head unit and screen stay in place. Sound deadening for the rear bench area and roof can be added on request. The Shark 6 is a plug-in hybrid with a high-voltage system and some tricky factory wiring, so it isn't a job for a general amplifier install or a weekend at home. We know how it is put together. Tell us how you listen and what you'd like to change, and we'll recommend a build.

Plug-in Hybrid Ute

Shark 6

The Shark 6 in New Zealand comes with a multichannel Dynaudio system: 12 speakers and a factory subwoofer. The speakers are decent for factory gear; the power behind them isn't. Because it is a plug-in hybrid with high-voltage wiring, the install takes someone who knows the vehicle. We do.

There is no one-size-fits-all. Tell us how you listen and what you'd like to change, and we'll recommend the build that suits your Shark 6.

More Power.
Same Speakers.

  • Multichannel DSP amplifier — all 12 speakers
  • Speaker timing, level and EQ tuning by ear
  • Sound deadening — all four doors
  • Power kit, cables and minor parts
  • Installation and tuning

System One is the DSP amplifier on its own. It sits between the factory Dynaudio amplifier and the speakers and drives all 12 individually, with volume, EQ and timing set for each one so the sound arrives at the same moment and puts you in the middle of the music instead of over on the driver's side. With real power behind them, the front door speakers play lower than you'd expect, and we blend them with the factory subwoofer so the bass becomes part of the music, not all of it. All four doors get sound deadening. For most owners it is the single upgrade that makes the biggest difference.

Real Bass.
Serious Punch.

Real bass, with power of its own.

  • Multichannel DSP amplifier
  • Slim subwoofer — behind the rear bench seat
  • Mono amplifier for the subwoofer
  • Sound deadening — all four doors
  • Power kit, cables and minor parts
  • Installation and tuning by ear

System Two is for owners who want more bass, and more of it. We replace the factory subwoofer with a slim aftermarket sub and its own mono amplifier, fitted behind the rear bench seat, and a multichannel DSP amplifier looks after the speakers. The sub gets its own power and its own tuning, so the bass is deeper, louder and more physical than the factory sub can manage, which suits owners who want to feel the music, not just hear it. It is a complete build in its own right, not System One with extras. The factory head unit stays, and all four doors are treated with sound deadening.

The complete build. Better speakers, real bass, full control.

  • Multichannel DSP amplifier
  • Front 6-inch component speaker set (mids and tweeters)
  • Slim subwoofer — behind the rear bench seat
  • Mono amplifier for the subwoofer
  • Sound deadening — all four doors
  • Power kit, cables and minor parts
  • Installation and personalised tuning

System Three is the complete build. A multichannel DSP amplifier, a slim aftermarket subwoofer with its own mono amplifier, sound deadening in all four doors, and a better set of front 6-inch component speakers, with separate midrange and tweeters, in place of the factory front pair. The front stage is where you hear most of the music, and it is the one place the factory hardware can be improved just by replacing it. The speakers are chosen to suit your taste and budget, and that is the conversation we'd like to have.

New Zealand's car audio specialists.

Rapid Radio has been installing and calibrating car audio systems in Auckland for over two decades. We work across the full spectrum — from everyday EVs through to Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, and Tesla — with every build calibrated by ear to the vehicle and the owner. No compromise installs. Factory-clean finish. Every time.

No two builds are the same — and that's the point.

Because the DSP is the engine of every upgrade, the hardware around it is entirely flexible. Entry-level speaker sets will sound dramatically better than the factory system — and world-class reference components will do things the factory engineers never imagined. We work across the full range, from practical upgrades to reference builds, and every system is calibrated by ear before you leave.

How long does a Shark 6 audio upgrade take?

It depends on the system and how your Shark 6 is set up. As a guide, System One and System Two usually take around two days, and System Three two to three days. We'll give you a clear timeframe when you book.

How much does a Shark 6 audio upgrade cost?

It depends on the system and, for System Three, the speakers you choose. Contact us with how you listen and what you'd like to change, and we'll give you a clear quote.

Will BYD software updates affect the upgrade?

No. Our upgrades connect to the factory signal and run on independent hardware. BYD's updates affect the head unit and vehicle software, not the amplifier, DSP or speakers we install. The factory head unit and screen stay in place.

Why is the Shark 6 stereo so quiet?

The Shark 6 in New Zealand has a multichannel Dynaudio system with 12 speakers, and the speakers aren't the main problem. There isn't enough power behind them. A DSP amplifier gives them the power and control they were missing.

Where does the subwoofer go?

In System Two and System Three, behind the rear bench seat, replacing the factory subwoofer. System One keeps the factory subwoofer and blends it into the tuning.

Do I need to replace the speakers?

No. System One and System Two use the factory speakers, which are decent for factory gear. System Three replaces the front pair with a better component set if you'd like to go further.

Which system is right for my Shark 6?

They are three different builds, not three steps on one ladder. System One is the biggest single improvement for most owners. System Two adds a sub with its own amplifier for much more bass. System Three adds better front speakers as well. Tell us how you listen and we'll recommend one. Sound deadening for the rear bench area and roof can be added to any of them.

Can you add radar detection to a Shark 6?

Yes. Portable detectors with permanent hardwired power and fully stealth-installed systems are both available, and either can be done alongside any audio system. Contact us to discuss the best approach.
