Better Sound for Your BYD Shark 6
The BYD Shark 6 has quickly become one of New Zealand’s favourite utes. There’s one thing we hear from new owners almost straight away, though: why is the Shark stereo so quiet?
The Shark 6 in New Zealand is equipped with Dynaudio, and the speakers aren’t the real problem. For factory gear, they're not bad at all (of course, we do have better speakers if you want to upgrade further).
What lets the system down is power. There just isn’t enough behind those speakers to let them do their thing.
But we have the fix. Actually, we have two.
The DSP amplifier
At the heart of both audio upgrade options is a multichannel DSP amplifier. It sits between the factory Dynaudio amp and the speakers and gives us total control over every note, every beat, every frequency of the music.
The Shark has 12 speakers in total, and the DSP lets us set the volume and EQ for each one individually. We also adjust the timing, so the sound from every speaker reaches you at the same moment. That puts you in the middle of the music, instead of way over on the driver’s side of the truck. Our software gives us pages of adjustments - far more than the standard "bass/treble/fade/balance" on the BYD Shark factory screen.
More power also means more bass. The front door speakers can play lower than you’d expect. In the tuning software we blend them with the factory subwoofer, so the bass becomes part of the music, not all of it.

Option 1: DSP amplifier only
Nothing changes inside the truck. No panels removed, no storage lost. You just get clearer, fuller sound from the speakers already there. This single piece of hardware is the upgrade that makes the biggest difference.
Option 2: DSP amplifier plus a new subwoofer
If you want even more bass, we can replace the factory sub with a slim aftermarket one, along with its own amplifier. It fits behind the rear bench seat, so you won’t notice it’s there.
Why bring it to Rapid Radio
The Shark 6 is a plug-in hybrid, with a high-voltage system and some tricky factory wiring. It’s not a job for a traditional car audio amplifier or DIY weekend in your garage.
We know how the Shark 6 is put together, so the install is safe and reliable, and we tune it to suit your listening style and your playlist. You can see the full range on our BYD audio upgrades page.
It’s not about making it super loud; it's just better. (And yes, it can play louder if you want to turn it up to 11).
